Semitrailer Industry Definition
A semitrailer is a trailer in which the axle is located behind the vehicle's center of gravity when the vehicle is evenly loaded. It is equipped with a coupling device that can transmit horizontal or vertical forces to the tractor. It cannot be supported independently. The load needs to be borne by the semi-trailer and the main vehicle. The front half rests on the tractor saddle on the rear section of the tractor, and the bridge behind the tractor bears part of the weight of the trailer.
